The importance of finding people who believe what you believe in 2017

This recent election cycle has really allowed people’s true selves to emerge.  I say TRUE self because you learn a lot about how people feel about you when they are angry with you. They tend to let their emotions hang out and they don’t pull any punches.  Some may see this as a bad thing and others may see it as good.  I tend to be optimistic in all situations.  Or as Gary V says, “I see the glass as half full even when I only have a drop left.”  This is why when those people emerged I immediately cut them off.  If you aren’t FOR me you have got to go. The vision you have for your life should be so strong and powerful that you cant afford to carry anyone who could slow you down even if it is a subtle pull. Cut them off.

When you are trying to change the world you need to spend more time acting and less time convincing people that you are right.  In order to truly win on a large scale, or to go from Good to Great, you have to get the right people on the bus and the right people off the bus.  And you cant be nice about it.  You don’t have to make a scene but there is no gray line here.  You have to find people who believe what you believe (Start with Why).

Last night I made a post talking about how sharing my true views and not trying to fit in and be well liked has allowed me to build a strong following on twitter and within my investment related ventures.  I believe that you have to be your true self in order to thrive. When you aren’t your true self you shrink and soon you are forgotten. I have experienced shrinking in order to fit in during my early years working in corporate America.  This serves no purpose because your worth is at least three times what they are willing to pay you.  The very concept of capitalism depends on them paying you a fraction of your value.  Therefore, you have to dim your light and there is no way you can be great dimming your light so others can be comfortable and/or profitable.

My point about sharing your true views goes to the idea that I referenced above about convincing people.  In order to become truly wealthy you have to create something that has never been seen.  Unfortunately, most people give you advice based on what they have done, what they have seen done or what they think can be done based on the first two reasons.  This does not mean it is not possible to do what you want to do but you are going to have a heck of a time trying to convince that small minded person so.  Instead, you need to get around people who have either done what you want to do or people who believe that what you want to do is possible.  I promise you that they exist.

Getting around people who think like you is key.  These people may not look like you, they may not have attended the same school and have the same degree as you.  These are people who think and create like you.  The key is to get a goal and then make all your decisions based on that goal especially the people you associate with.  You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

If you goal is to put a dent in the universe then all your goals, discussions, analysis should be driven toward making that dream become a reality.  You cant waste time convincing someone that it is possible. ALL things are possible.  The only thing that isn’t possible is the thing that you have given up on and aren’t willing to put work into.   708c8b0828aa1d985f71114086b69f50.jpg

So many people have given up trying and are spending their time looking for excuses why they can’t so they can chill and relax in mediocrity without feeling guilty.  They will research an article on black wealth that basically served no purpose but to provide an excuse for people who aren’t doing anything progressive anyway.  Those are the people that you don’t need.  You can look at the past and historical reason for why you cant and I guarantee you will find them.  The universe will conspire to give you what you want.  That works both for the great things you want to do and the excuses you want to make.  The laws operate whether you agree with them or not.  But again, if you are one of these people then you should just continue to hang with those people.  It is a waste of your effort to try and convince someone who has a vested interest in not understanding you.  Find people who believe what you believe and then build.  I am anti protest but you would be better off finding more people who want to protest than convincing people (like me) why you are right or convincing them to like you and care about your issues.  It goes both ways.

I want to encourage you to stop looking for consensus in 2017.  Instead become the consensus and build your following.  If you are trying to build something or do something that has never been done nobody is a credible source on whether it is possible because the future has yet to be written.  Focus on promoting your agenda and then finding more people who want to get under your agenda, who think like you, and want to build.  And again, please don’t limit your circle to people who may share the same skin color or background.  Additionally, don’t expect someone to be in your tribe because they do either. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.  Its the thought process and creative solutions that will build your destiny.  Be great, because you are.
